Why you want a USB data blocker
Plugging a signing device into your laptop is always a trade-off. You need power, but you don’t want to expose your wallet to whatever is running on that machine. This USB data blocker keeps things as dumb as possible on purpose. It passes power only and physically disconnects the USB data lines, so your SeedSigner or other cold-wallet gear can stay offline while you power it up.
Perfect for:
- SeedSigner and other DIY signing devices
- Cold wallets you only want powered, not connected
- •Any USB gadget you’d rather keep isolated from a sketchy port
Key benefits:
- Power only, no data – Blocks USB data lines between host and device.
- Great for cold wallets – Safer power for SeedSigner and other signing tools.
- “Don’t trust, verify” design – Board ships outside the enclosure for inspection.
- Uses cables you already own – Works with standard USB-A leads.
How it works:
- Insert the data blocker between your computer / charger and your device.
- Plug your USB-A cable into the “Power Only” side.
- The board routes 5V power through, but the USB data pins are not connected.
- Your device powers on, but the host machine never sees it as a USB device.
Note: because the board does not negotiate USB power, it may not work with some very “smart” chargers or power bricks that require data-line handshakes. In those cases, use a simple USB power brick, powered USB hub, or computer port.
